THE Aviation Institute is suspending operations as of July 1, 2008.

I am leaving the George Washington University to take a position at Dubai Aerospace Enterprise University.  as Associate Provost for Graduate Studies and Research.

It has been a great run at the Institute with great colleagues and students who worked together on the International Aviation Safety and Security Summit Program, the Aviation Safety and Security Certificate Program, multitudes of research projects and IATA partnership.  I surely will miss that.

THE GW AVIATION INSTITUTE

The Institute strives to provide a bridge between industry, government, and academia to address those issues effecting the future of aviation. We accomplish this through:

  • Programs aimed at training aviation professionals
  • Seminars devoted to the discussion of aviation issues
  • Research targeted at advancing aviation benefits to consumers

The GWU Aviation Institute is the first attempt by a major university in the United States to combine the efforts of federal, state, and local government within industry and academia to promote a comprehensive approach to safety and security issues facing the aviation industry in the new millennium.   Since 1998, the Institute has established programs in research and education in Aviation Safety and Security as a primary response to the President's Commission on Aviation Safety and Security in the 21st Century.

The Institute has successfully led the International Aviation Safety and Security Summit Program (2001 - 2005), been a member of the FAA Center of Excellence on Airworthiness Assurance (AACE - 2004 - 2007) and has conducted the Aviation Safety and Security Certificate Program for nearly 10 years.

The Institute has performed a number of research projects funded by the FAA, National Academies, Industry, USTDA and has had over 30 graduates from its Certificate Program.

The certificate program is offered bi-annually, in the Fall and Spring, and may be completed within a two-week period, although up to three months is afforded for those requiring additional time to complete a Case Study. Graduates of the program have the ability to apply a rich skill-set and reasoned approach to managing today's complex and ever-changing aviation environment.
