President Knapp on GW Alumni:
Alumni I have met so far have been uniform in their commitment to the university and their desire to open doors for our students. And when they encounter those students, our alumni are as impressed as I am by their intellect, their drive, their curiosity, and their engagement.
— Inaugural Remarks, November 16, 2007
I have already heard from many alumni who seek a deeper and stronger connection with what is traditionally called their alma mater, but what I would prefer to call, simply, their university.
— Address to Faculty Assembly, September 10, 2007
Perhaps the greatest testament to the history we continue to make is the network of GW alumni spread across the world, 220,000 in all, with 70,000 of them in the greater Washington region alone.
— Convocation Remarks, September 3, 2007

"Last year, I traveled to 12 cities from New York to Hong Kong and managed to meet some 11,000 [alumni]; this year I hope to meet at least as many more."
— President Knapp, Sept. 2008
