Orient Yourself: A survey of GWU's Web resources

Begin your online orientation

While the library, bookstore, and student union retain their value for students at the George Washington University, a wide-array of Internet resources have been developed to expand the Colonial experience well beyond the traditional boundaries of the University's Campuses. Today, you can use the University's Websites to register for courses, order books, chat with other students, reserve books at the library, find a job, or even to complete an entire course without coming to campus.

Orient Yourself has been developed as a tool for helping you discover the many Web resources of the University. By taking a few minutes to complete each of the Orient Yourself tours, in the future you should be able to quickly know where to go online for the most useful information available. While other students search the Internet and University's Websites for valuable resources you will know exactly where to go to find the information or services you are looking for online.

Directions

Using the links to the left you can access the Orient Yourself tours. Each tour includes short descriptions of the Web resources, questions that may lead you to the Websites, animated tours of each Website, and active links to the Webpages. You should take a few minutes to explore each Website before moving on to the next Website on the tour.

The animated tours require that you have the Flash Media Player installed on your computer. The Flash Player is available at no cost from Macromedia, and installation instructions are available on their Website.

At the end of each tour are three review questions related to the included Websites. For some students, responses to these questions will be required as assignments by their professors; and for all students the questions can offer useful reviews before moving on to the next Orient Yourself tour.

When you have completed each of the five tours, you can continue to use this Website for quick access to the University's Websites. The "Quick Links" button will take you to an organized list of the resources included in the tours, as well as new Websites available at the University.
