The GW Battleground 2004 Poll conducted surrounding the presidential election was mentioned by the Star-Ledger (New Jersey, 10/17), National Post (10/19), The Hotline (10/26), MSNBC Scarborough Country, AFX International Focus, Associated Press (10/29), Agence France Presse (10/30), and Wall Street Journal (10/31).

The GW Hospital was mentioned by Desert Morning News in regards to former President Ronald Reagan coming to the University's hospital in 1981 (10/22). A grant received by the GW Medical Center on behalf of Ensuring Solutions to Alcohol Problems was mentioned by Ascribe News (10/26).

 

GW was mentioned in The Washington Post in regards to the Gill Fellowship administered by the Graduate School of Political Management, which awards scholarship funds to gay students to spend a semester studying politics in the nation's capital (10/17).

 

The GW Institute for Politics, Democracy, and the Internet was mentioned by The Washington Post in regards to a report by the institute about online video archive of attack ads (10/26).

 

GW was mentioned by US Fed News in regards to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which GW opened on its Ashburn campus in September 2003 (10/18).

Michael Cornfield, assistant professor of political science, was quoted by The Washington Post and Newsbytes News Network in regards to pop up video attack ads on instant messaging software (10/31).

 

Carol Darr, director of GW's Institute for Politics, Democracy & the Internet, appeared on ABC Good Morning America to discuss online political Web videos (10/20).

 

Christopher Deering, chairman of political science, was quoted by The Milwaukee Journal on the criticism the 108th Congress has received over stalled initiatives (10/29).

 

Richard Grinker, professor of anthropology & international affairs, was quoted by Join.com on issues with Pyeongyang, the capital of North Korea (10/21).

Phillip Joyce, associate professor of public policy, was quoted by The Washington Post (10/17) and The Cincinnati Post (10/21) about the unsustainability of the current U.S. budget.

 

Julia Lear, associate research professor of prevention and community health, was quoted by the Associated Press on the flu shot crisis of the U.S. (10/20, 10/21).

 

Lynda Maddox, professor of business administration, was quoted by The Washington Post, Newsbytes News Network (10/17), and Houston Chronicle (10/18) in regards to service charges adding to the already high monthly bills Americans pay today.

 

Timothy McCaffrey, associate professor of biochemistry, was quoted by the Independent on Sunday on stem cell research (10/31).

 

George Novak, senior research scientist at GW's Aviation Institute, was interviewed by WJLA-TV (Washington, D.C.) in regards to encouraging people to use frequent flyer tickets (10/26). Novak was interviewed on NPR and Cox Television about Delta Airlines potential bankruptcy (10/27). Novak was quoted by The Star Ledger in regards to ATA Airlines going bankrupt (10/28).  Novak was interviewed by WJLA-TV about Southwest Airlines' new ticketing and seating policy (10/29).

 

Michael Olding, associate professor of surgery, was quoted by The Virginian Pilot on cosmetic surgery in the military (10/25).

 

Spencer Overton, associate professor of law, was quoted by the Associated Press on voter fraud involving illegal immigrants (10/26).

 

Peter Reddaway, professor emeritus of political science and international affairs, was interviewed by Voice of America for an eight-part series about Russia and Chechnya (10/21). 

 

Dr. Christine Teal, associate professor of surgery, was quoted by The Washington Post in regards to doctors now aiming to sway breast cancer patients to get conservative rather than radical surgery (10/19).

 

Dr. Laura Tosi, associate professor of orthopedic surgeon, was quoted by The New York Times on how to keep bones healthy (10/19).

 

Jonathan Turley, professor of law, was quoted by The Plain Dealer in regards to potential court vacancies being a focus for the presidential campaign (10/28).  Turley was quoted in The New York Times in regards to families of the 1544th Transportation Company of the Illinois National Guard offering to pay to weld steel plates on the unit's trucks to protect against roadside bombs (10/30).

 

Robert Tuttle, professor of law, was interviewed by Marketplace (10/29), in regards to the IRS questioning the NAACP's tax exempt status.

 

Angela Williamson, research scientist, was quoted by Malaria Weekly, Health & Medicine Week (10/25), Science Letter, Life Science Weekly (10/26), Vaccine Weekly, Immunotherapy Weekly and Biotech Week (10/27), Drug Week (10/29), Obesity, Fitness & Wellness (10/30) about a possible hook worm vaccine.

 

Maida Withers, professor of dance, and Dana Tai Soon Burgess, assistant professor of dance, were quoted by The Washington Times about their performances in an article about the summer international tours of four leading dancers from Washington, D.C. (10/16).

 

Bernard Wood, professor of anthropology, was quoted by The Grand Rapids Press, Associated Press (10/27), Charleston Gazette, Press Democrat News Services, The Boston Globe, The Columbian, The Star Ledger, The Record, Deseret Morning News, The Toronto Star, The Daily Telegraph, The Advertise, Australian Broadcasting (10/28), The Sydney Morning Herald (10/29, 10/30), and the New Scientist (10/30) in regards to a skeleton of a human dwarf species found in Indonesia.
