GW’s Commencement on the Ellipse ceremony received coverage from numerous media outlets including The Washington Post, WRC-TV (NBC 4), WJLA-TV (ABC 7), The Post Express, and The Washington Examiner (5/22, 5/23).

Several media outlets profiled the four members of the Simon and Anna Lee family who graduated from GW. Outlets include NPR Weekend Edition, WTOP, WJLA-TV (ABC 7), the Korean Broadcasting System, and Knight Ridder newspapers The Miami Herald Tribune and The Kansas City Star.

Sen. Harry Reid’s address at the Law School Diploma Ceremony received wide national coverage. Outlets include the Associated Press, C-SPAN, Congress Daily, FOX News Channel, NBC Nightly News, Reuters, The Washington Post, The Las Vegas Sun, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Guardian (UK), The Minneapolis-Star Tribune, The Kansas City Star, The San Francisco Chronicle, ABCNews.com, CNN American Morning, International Herald Tribune, Houston Chronicle, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, and Chicago Tribune (5/22, 5/23).

The Washington Post profiled GW graduating senior and Iraqi war veteran Daniel Wise (5/22).

GW was profiled in a Chronicle of Higher Education story about fixed-rate tuition. Robert Chernak, senior vice president for student and academic support services, was quoted in the article (5/16).

A School of PublicHealth and Health Services study regarding teens and the use of condoms was mentioned by the Rocky Mountain News (5/16).

The Los Angeles Times referenced a GW study about television war coverage (5/22).

A study conducted at GW about active senior citizens was mentioned by The Independent (5/24).

New papers released by the National Security Archives at GW about Cuban exile Luis Posada Carriles received coverage from the Associated Press, NPR, and ABC Nightline (5/19).

The new Pharmacogenomics program offered jointly this fall with GW and Shenandoah University was mentioned by The Washington Times (5/24) and American Health Line (5/25).

General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt’s May 9 address at GW about a company-wide initiative called Ecomagination received coverage in the San Francisco Chronicle.

Gordon Adams, professor of the practice of international affairs, was quoted by Engineering News Record about military construction (5/23).

Abiodun Bada, assistant professor of engineering management and systems engineering, was quoted by All Africa about a global conference on Information and Communications Technology (5/19).

John Banzhaf, professor of law, was quoted by The New York Times about the proposed “Women’s Restroom Equity Bill” (5/20). He was mentioned in a Kansas City Star story about new high-calorie menu items at fast food restaurants (5/20).

Jerome Barron, Harold H. Greene Professor of Law, was quoted by the Winston-SalemJournal about Senate filibusters (5/24).

Sarah Binder, associate professor of political science, discussed judicial nominees with the following outlets, the Journal Gazette (5/16), NPR All Things Considered (5/18), PBS The News Hour With Jim Lehrer, Voice of America, C-SPAN Washington Journal, The Seattle Times (5/19), and TheNew York Times (5/20). Binder wrote a New York Times op-ed titled “History’s Verdict” (5/19).

Nathan Brown, professor of political science and international affairs, was referenced in a New York Times story about the EU constitution (5/27).

Gene Cohen, professor of health care sciences, was quoted by the Deseret Morning News about a study that found that seniors who stay active are happier and healthier (5/18).

He was mentioned by the Roanoke Times & World News about the Communitarianism movement (5/29). Finally, Etzioni appeared on Voice of America to discuss Palestinian progress and Mahmoud Abbas’ visit to the White House (5/31).

Mark Feldstein, associate professor of media and public affairs, was interviewed by the Associated Press, Bloomberg, BBC news, CBC news, and French television about W. Mark Felt coming fourth as Watergate source “Deep Throat” (5/31).

Mary Furtrell, dean of the Graduate School of Education and Human Development, was quoted by The Richmond Times about a speech she delivered at Virginia State University (5/16).

Lynne Gaby, assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, was quoted by Dow Jones, the Associated Press (5/19), The Washington Post and The Richmond Times (5/20) in regards to the terror case involving Abu Ali that claims he was psychologically and physically tortured.

Marva Gumbs, executive director of the GW Career Center, was quoted by The Washington Post about the importance of thank you notes after interviews (5/22).

Judith Hsia, professor of medicine, was quoted in a WUSATV9.com story about new breast cancer research (5/25).

Amy Hennings, assistant director of security systems operations, was quoted by Computerworld about computer hackers (5/23).

James Horton, Benjamin Banneker Professor of American Studies and of History, was quoted by The New York Times about a speech he gave at Wagner College (5/21).

Amb. Karl Inderfurth, professor of the practice of international affairs, wrote a Christian Science op-ed titled “ India and Pakistan-Thawing the Frozen Divide” (5/23).

Orin Kerr, associate professor of law, commented in a Gannet News Service story about workplace electronic surveillance (5/27).

Kirk Larsen, Korea Foundation Assistant Professor of History and International Affairs, was quoted by Voice of America about issues in Korea (5/17).

Ira Lupu, F. Elwood and Eleanor Davis Professor of Law, appeared on NPR Morning Edition about an abstinence program at the center of a lawsuit (5/17).

David McAleavey, professor of English, was quoted by The Washington Times about student writing skills (5/23).

David Michaels, research professor of environmental occupational health, was quoted by The Washington Post about Disney World characters (5/24).

Carl Stern, J.B. and Maurice C. Shapiro Professor of Media and Public Affairs , was quoted in a Salon.com story about PBS hiring an ombudsmen (5/16).

Jonathan Turley, J.B. and Maurice C. Shapiro Professor of Public Service Law, appeared on Multichannel News (5/17) and FOX News Channel (5/20) discussing judicial nominees. Turley was quoted by Dow Jones in regards to tobacco lawsuits (5/19). He was interviewed on NBC Nightly News about DNA evidence (5/22). Turley’s comments on questionable lawmaker trips appeared in the Chicago Tribune. Turley was quoted by Reuters about the fate of Eliot Spitzer’s pending trial of a former Bank of America Corp. broker (5/26). Finally, he was quoted in The Kansas City Star about activist judges (5/30).
